Huawei to launch official version of Harmony OS for mobile phones on June 2

This morning, it was reported that Huawei has made a considerable change. Recently, the company has officially revealed (on EMUI Official Weibo) that the official Weibo of Huawei EMUI will be officially renamed to Harmony OS from now on.

The company has released a teaser in video and mentioned that a launch conference for the official version of Harmony OS for mobile phones and Huawei’s full-scene new product launch will be held on June 2.

Huawei EMUI Change

Huawei released the first Harmony OS 2.0 Beta for mobile phones on December 18, 2020, and then successively released multiple versions. The latest version is Beta3 2.0.0.110.

Earlier, it was also reported that Huawei had registered an official Weibo named Huawei HarmonyOS, but it has not released any Weibo yet. The launch of the Harmony system also means that the EMUI system that Huawei has built for many years will come to an end (after almost eight years).

Yang Haisong, vice president of Huawei’s AI and Intelligence All-Scenario Business Unit for Consumer Business, said in an interview that Harmony OS is completely open-source. According to the plan, it will be open-sourced this year for full-stack systems for 128MB-4GB devices.

“Mobile phone manufacturers from other parties are welcome to use the Harmony system to open source and build together. However, the “three-way phone ‘who ‘and ‘when ‘the obscurity system depends entirely on the manufacturer’s own commercial considerations.”

It is worth mentioning that Huawei introduced its EMUI for the first time on December 30, 2012. The first version of EMUI 1.0 (aka Emotion UI 1.0) was based on Android 4.0. At the official launch, the company stated that this UI is the world’s most powerful and easy to use from the user’s point of view.
