According to information on Changxin’s official website, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) and Rambus Inc. (Rambus) signed a patent license agreement. This agreement gives ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) access to a large number of dynamic access memory (DRAM) technology patent licenses.
Yiming Zhu, the chairman and CEO of CXMT, said, “The agreement with Rambus once again demonstrates our great attention to international intellectual property (IP) related rules and continued efforts to strengthen the company’s IP portfolio”. The CEO further stressed, “In order to achieve sustainable growth and gain competitiveness in the market, we are committed to continuously building upon our technology and IP assets through independent R&D efforts combined with global cooperation.”
On the other hand, the CEO of Rambus, Luc Seraphin, acknowledged CXMT as the emerging leader in China’s DRAM industry. The CEO admired this long-term agreement, which recognizes the fundamental value of the Rombus patent portfolio.
CXMT is acquiring DRAM intellectual property to secure its long-term plans to become a market leader. Last year, it also purchased a number of DRAM technology patents through a similar agreement with Polaris Innovations Limited. The patents were purchased by Polaris Innovations Limited from Infineon’s subsidiary Qimonda in mid-2015.
Such patent agreements will significantly enhance CXMT’s global reach and help it become a leader in DRAM technology in China. These intellectual property rights will also help advance DRAM technology through CXMT’s domestic R&D. In this way, CXMT will become a leader not only in the DRAM field in China but also a global leader in this type of technology in the near future.
