Samsung NP540U4E Disassembly

In this guide, I will explain how to disassemble the Samsung NP540U4E to remove the battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, cooling fan, bottom case, and motherboard.

In my case, the laptop model is NP540U4E-K01CN.

First, remove the screw securing the memory cover.

Pry up and remove the memory cover. The back of the memory cover is equipped with a shield to prevent dust from entering the laptop, and additionally, it also includes a guide for removing the memory module.

The laptop has two memory slots, but only one memory was installed in my laptop. If necessary, users can add another memory module.

The Samsung NP540U4E comes with a Samsung 4GB DDR3-1600MHz memory module.

Remove all screws from the bottom case. Insert a pry tool beneath the bottom cover. Slide the pry tool to gradually release the retaining clips on the bottom cover until it is completely detached from the laptop.

Under the bottom case, you can access the battery, hard drive, speakers, CMOS battery, wireless card, cooling fan, and motherboard.

Remove the three screws securing the battery, and then disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard. Lift the battery and remove it.

The laptop comes with a 7560mAh Li-ion battery. The Samsung part number is AA-PBWN4AB.AA-PBWN4AB

Remove the four screws securing the hard drive module and disconnect the HDD cable from the motherboard. You can remove the hard drive module.

The laptop features an HGST 500GB hard drive. The hard drive is mounted on an HDD caddy. To replace the hard drive, you need to remove the HDD caddy from the old hard drive and install it on the new hard drive.

Remove the screw securing the wireless card and disconnect the two antennas.

Unplug all cables and remove the screws securing the motherboard. Lift the motherboard from one side, then wiggle it until it is completely removed.

Remove the six screws securing the heat sink.
Remove the screw securing the cooling fan.
Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard. You can remove the heatsink and cooling fan module.
