Asus ROG GL552JX Disassembly and SSD, RAM, HDD Upgrade Options

In this guide, I’ll explain how to disassemble the Asus ROG GL552JX to remove the back cover, cooling fan, optical drive, hard drive, SSD, RAM, and motherboard.

Unlock and remove the battery.
Remove two screws securing the service cover.
Remove all screws securing from the bottom case.

Sliding down the service cover.
Remove the cover.

Under the cover, you can access a hard drive, RAM, and one spare SSD slot.

The Asus ROG GL552JX has two RAM slots and only comes with one RAM, so you can add another RAM.

Pull out the optical drive. The model is a MATSHITA UJ8G6 DVD burner.

Remove four screws securing the hard drive module.
The Asus ROG GL552JX comes with an HGST 1TB 5400RPM hard drive.

The Asus ROG GL552JX comes with an SK Hynix 4GB PC3L-12800S 1600MHz RAM.

Turn over the laptop, pry up the palm rest with a crowbar, and you can use a guitar pick to separate two parts.
Insert it under the top cover and move slowly along the side to unlock hidden latches.
Lift up the palm rest, disconnect the keyboard cable, backlit cable, and touch cable from the motherboard.

Under the palm rest, you can access the motherboard, wireless card, and USB board.

Unplug two wireless antenna cables, and remove one screw securing the wireless card.

The Asus ROG GL552JX features an Azurewave AW-NB182NF wireless card.

Remove all screws securing the motherboard. Disconnect all cables connecting to the motherboard.

Remove eight screws securing the heat sink.
Disconnect the cooling fan cable from the motherboard.

  1. Hey, that black strip beside the hard drive. Is it to lift up the hard drive, or does it do something else? I actually tucked it in the gap beside the hard drive. Would I run into some sort of problem because of this?

  2. My Asus Rog GL552vx laptop restarts when pressed near the palm rest area. Even a slight movement causes the restart. From the pictures, I believe it is the position of the CMOS battery. Will the movement of the CMOS battery during boot-up cause these shutdowns? Please advise.
