Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Disassembly (Clean Cooling Fan, Remove Keyboard)
In this guide, I’ll explain how to disassemble the Lenovo ThinkPad X201 to remove and replace the hard drive, RAM, keyboard, palm rest, wireless card, motherboard, heat sink, and cooling fan. Refer to this guide. You can repair, upgrade, and clean your ThinkPad X201.

Power off your laptop. Unlock and remove the battery.
Remove twelve screws from the bottom case.
Remove the hard drive cover. Pull out the hard drive module.
Flip over your laptop. Slide the keyboard to the screen. Lift up the keyboard and disconnect the keyboard cable. You can remove the keyboard.
Lift up the palm rest and connect to the touchpad cable.
Disconnect the LCD cable from the motherboard.
Disconnect the sound card cable from the motherboard.
The motherboard has been removed.
Remove the cooling fan from the heat sink.
The cooling fan was removed. You can clean it with a brush or air-blowing.
Add lubricating oil to the cooling fan roller.
