MediaTek Officially Confirmed To Launch Dimensity 800 Series On May 18

On May 14, this morning. MediaTek officially announced a new product launch event. The launch event is set to happen at 2:30 PM (UTC+08:00) on May 18. It is confirmed that Mediatek will launch its new Dimensity 800 series in this upcoming event. The new Dimensity 800 will be a mid-range 5G Soc.

It is also reported that the new Dimensity 800 has already been commercialized, and OPPO is the first brand to use it. The chipset will be used in the new upcoming OPPO A92s. According to the intro, the Dimensity 800 chipset is an octa-core processor having four ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2GHz and four energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 2GHz. The startup speed is faster, and the performance of multi-threaded operations is improved. The GPU used in this chipset is Mali-G57 MC4.

It is also reported that Mediatek will also launch a plus version of Dimensity 800 in this launch event, which will be named “Dimensity 800+”. Dimensity 800+ has a higher CPU frequency and more reliable performance.

In addition to OPPO A92s, Xiaomi will also use this chipset. Recently, Lu Weibing (President of Xiaomi Group China and General Manager of the Redmi brand) had hinted that Redmi would use the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chip. The reports claimed that we might see these chipsets in the upcoming Redmi Note 10 series, and the Dimensity 800 will be used in the standard version of Redmi Note 10, and the Dimensity 800+ will be used in the pro version of Redmi Note 10.
