Previously, there were rumors that OnePlus was working on another high-end mid-range smartphone that would feature the same chipset as the OnePlus Ace.
This morning, OnePlus officially announced that the company will be launching the OnePlus Ace Race Edition on May 17 at 7 p.m. The device will be powered by the same Dimensity 8100 Max chipset as the OnePlus Ace, but also designed for gaming.
Judging from the official poster, the design of the device is very different. The OnePlus Ace Race Edition will feature a dual camera setup with an LED flash. The camera module is attached and edged with the right side of the frame.
The fingerprint scanner is integrated into the lock screen button, unlike the OnePlus Ace, which comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The display would probably be an IPS LCD as it doesn’t support an in-display fingerprint sensor. Previously, a OnePlus device was also revealed on TENAA certification, which was expected to be the OnePlus Ace Race Edition, but there are many differences between them.
As mentioned earlier, the device comes with the Dimensity 8100 Max chipset, an improved version of the standard Dimensity 8100. It is worth noting that MediaTek has partnered with OnePlus to exclusively design the Dimensity 8100 Max. The phone will also feature breakthroughs in cooling, fast processing, vibration motor and battery life.
The officials also mentioned that this phone would be priced at around 2000 RMB ($295). In the upcoming days, the officials are expected to reveal more device highlights.
